GrammaLink- Africa is a Red Deer and area group of Grandmothers and "Grandothers" fundraising in support of grandmothers in Africa who have lost family members to the HIV and AIDs epidemic.
Grandmother groups organize events and activities and act in solidarity with the grandmothers and the SLF's community led organizations working on the frontlines in sub-Saharan Africa. The Stephen Lewis Foundation launched the Grandmother to Grandmother Campaign in 2006, in response to the the emerging crisis faced by grandmothers in Africa as they struggled to raise millions of children whose parents have died by AIDS. Through sustained funding of their work, African grandmothers have moved from securing their most basic needs to taking on leadership roles in the community, and starting their own programs for childcare, income generation and other support networks.
